Titanic: Lost in the Darkness

An OLD video featuring footage from Lost in the Darkness when it was using Cryengine 2.

This video shows our older, unfinished models of the A la Carte Restaurant, Aft Grand Staircase, B and E Deck first class corridors, Forward Grand Staircase, D Deck and B Deck Reception Rooms, and the First Class Purser’s Office. These models have been updated for and look much better in the new Cryengine 3.

Anonymous asked: Oi! what happened to the palms? Come on guys, I hate to be a pain and complaining about the great work your doing, but you had perfection with the Reception Room just a week ago - I don't know what's prompting the fooling around with the carpet color and the plants; but I've just got to pledge full support for your May 6th render. I've never voiced anything like this before, but I believe very strongly in the beauty you achieved not long ago. Red carpet forever!! Plus the palms looked better.

Don’t get me wrong, the Reception Room looks decent - just - kind of falls flat and lacks that certain pizazz after seeing what you had with the red carpet. It felt warmer and more inviting - and just made me want to be there. The new greenish/blue carpeting - perhaps making it the purported ‘green room’ - makes it look like it’s already underwater. It just feels - murky. Doesn’t have that big grand feeling of that rich red. Plus, I liked the palms better.

Please note that since this is a work in progress, not all details are final. This includes details like plants and carpets.

On the point of the plants, what you see in the screen shots is only temporary. The palms you saw in the renders were not modeled in the proper way for the game engine, and may not have even been included in the model sent to our cryengine importer. So, existing plants from another game (Crysis 2 I believe) were used. We will be modeling the proper palm plants eventually.

On the point of the carpet, the change to blue was made by someone who has worked with the interior modeler, but not necessarily deeply involved in the game project, for most of it anyway. His reasons for the change are unknown, but some of the others in the team seem to agree that perhaps the change is a plausible one. This is not set in stone, however, we may change it back to red, that is yet to be determined. When it comes to details like this, we will make them according to what’s most likely, most plausible, or according to whatever facts come our way, not according to what simply looks good. It’s true that the red carpet has a much nicer overall effect in the room, but if blue turns out to be more likely, we will go with that regardless of how dreary it may look. Even if we keep the blue carpet, it may be changed to have a little more red in it.

Just keep in mind that these are not finalized details, they may be changed before completion, and some will certainly be changed.
